Hello.
I'm a Venezuelan-based visual artist & designer, with a passionate interest in heraldry and period art.

This sections features works I've done related to the subject mentioned, such as emblem designs, decorative patterns, and private emblazonment commissions

Press "process" to learn more about my design approach to the subject. Should you be interested in requesting an emblazonment of your arms "commissions" contains information on how to go on about it "my arms" contains information about my own assumed arms.

Process

To begin, I figure out the kind of aesthetic and symbolism that will best fit the blazon. To do this I start by exploring possible ornamentation styles, the subjects of and moods in color and composition. When working for a client, I usually send them some questions to determine their prefrences in this regard.

The next stage is making a series of thumbnails to figure out composition and brainstorm ideas. If I'm working in collaboration with someone or this involves a client, this step involves their assessment of the thumbnails, sometimes selecting one option and sometimes combining them based on the desired aspects of each.

Once I have a rough idea of where I want to go with the work, I procede to the actual painting: lineart, blocking, shading, special effects & color corrections.

Comissions

Currently I offer full-color digital paintings at high-res (300ppi). The image is produced in RBG profile, but a CMYK version may be requested if the painting is to be optimized for printing.

Available formats

  • 30cm x 30 cm / (for Panel compositions) / sample
  • 36 cm x 22 cm / 4200 x 2550 px (for Landscape compositions) / sample
  • 22 cm x 36 cm / 2550 x 4200 px (for Portrait compositions) / sample

Orders take, ideally, about a month to complete. Specially challenging or elaborate paintings may take up to two months.

Prices start at $70 for depiction of the escutcheon, and rise depending on complexity, requirements for new design, urgency, and the number of elements portrayed (ex: multiple arms, accounterments).

  • A payment of 50% is requested before the work begins.

Artist's Notes:

Part of a delayed trade with "Knight Of Ashes". In this, I took the chance to experiment with various things: celtic knotting and writting, slanted archievements, and a square composition that uses the whole area. The use of the repeated motto in the background, was a risk as well.

This was the first digital work in which I managed to make the connection between the kind of "negative" lineart I was trying to use (that is, lines of bright color) and the lining used on enameled metal pins. Thus, creating a linework that had its own reflections and shadows, creating depht to a flat design, without sacrificing its graphic potency. I would later try to emphazise this effect in other works.

This was one of the first digital works in which I tried to apply a digital "splatter" to simuluate scattered light, but at this stage, it was still kind of haphazard.

Private comission, first attempt at an Art Nouveau style.

This piece was a huge learning experience in respect to the problem of scaling details in a digital work. The mantle and motto looked great zoomed in, but zooming out, when looking at the final piece, I was left crestfalle at how much the detailing got lost. In subsequent works, I became more careful when sizing details that would "read" well enough when viewing the work in full-scale.

The aspect of lighting and atmosphere were also important aspects here. There's multiple light sources of colored lights (orange, blue, and yellow), that create a "sunset" or otherwordly atmosphere, recalling the typical paintings done in this style.

This design alludes to my arms with the falcon skull, and the arrow being a more violent metaphor for a falcon's hood.

As well as the classic b/w version, I made some variations in red/white, and in a textile-kind of pattern
